Sydney Style Guide – How To Style Your Outdoor Kitchen

Author: Raquel

Sydney-siders are known for their passion for style, design and entertaining.

Many outdoor kitchens in Sydney bring the outdoors in and the indoors out. They meld in perfect harmony.

There are many ways you can stamp your style on your outdoor kitchen, and by decorating with accessories like plants, napery, wooden boards, jugs and utensil holders, and you can switch things up without spending a fortune when you tire of the look you have.

Here are a few styling ideas we love!

Flaming Fantastic!

Grab yourself a couple of fire pits and a bag of wood and set the scene for a cosy winter in your alfresco kitchen.
Fire pits are the perfect addition, and they’re not just a source of heat.
They look great too! You can even build a firewood holder to stack your firewood and incorporate it into your overall design.

Decorative Metal Screens

Add life to your outdoor kitchen walls with decorative metal screens.
You can hang them on the wall above or beside your alfresco kitchen or as privacy screens to block out your neighbours.

Very handy if you live in an apartment building where balconies are a little more open than you’d like!
There are plenty of pre-cut designs to choose from, or you can custom-design your own patterns.

Green Walls & Outdoor Plants & Herbs

Green walls are a fantastic way to brighten up your outdoor kitchen area. And if you don’t have a green thumb and are worried your green wall may start to die off, there are some great life-like artificial ones.

If you don’t have the room, set up or budget to install a green wall, outdoor plants are also a great way to decorate.

There are thousands of pot plant designs to suit every taste, style, and budget and come in a fantastic array of materials. Think rattan, terracotta, woven baskets, hanging baskets, timber – the list goes on and on!
Find a speciality nursery; most of them will have hundreds of styles to choose from.
But if you really want to add your own personality to your outdoor kitchen, find a potter and have them design one for you.

Another practical décor idea is to use potted herbs to decorate your outdoor kitchen. They look great, and you have herbs on hand whenever you need them!

Delightful Décor

You can add class and style to your outdoor kitchen by choosing a colour theme and a few key items you love.

Candles add a great atmosphere, and jars filled with fairy lights add a whimsical touch. Utensil holders and trays are practical, but they also look great. Jugs or a champagne bucket with glasses on a funky tray invite guests to settle in for a casual drink.

There are hundreds of great looking salt and pepper grinder and oil bottles around that can jazz up your outdoor kitchen too.
There’s a great range of hand and dishwashing liquid dispensers in homeware stores, and you can add brightness with tea towels and napery.
